Milla Martikainen

Hello! My name is Milla.

I am a performing artist and scenographer with over ten years of experience in the performing arts as a performer and visual designer, project leader and producer, facilitator and pedagogue.

My work explores boundaries and liminal spaces: the thresholds between bodies, environments, and fields of knowledge, where familiar rules begin to falter and something new finds room to emerge. I believe a better world can only be built from a good stance, grounded in pleasure and joy.

I hold MA degrees from Aalto ARTS in scenography and from Helsinki Theatre Academy in lighting design. My practice engages with questions of eco-social sustainability, exploring how art can participate in and catalyze cultural transition.

I am currently chair of

Mustarinda ry and a founding member of Metsäesitys ry. I have worked as a project coordinator in Luoto-project and I am a visiting teacher in Theatre Academy Helsinki.

This is my web portfolio of artistic projects I consider most relevant to my current practice. A more detailed CV is available upon request – just mail me & ask!
